The Last Place is a one man band—Zac Bates. He plays all the instruments and produces and writes all the songs.

With The Last Place, Zac feels artistically unbound. When he sits down to write a new song, there are no constraints set by others. The Last Place is fun. Writing the songs is like having a week-long jam session. Every layer is just recorded at the speed of thought and only later is it cut up, edited, mixed, and arranged. The greatest part of TLP. The collaborators found strewn across are people that Zak has enjoyed working with in the past, such as Jade Bolling, as well as people he would like to get to know better in the future.

The appeal of TLP is quite limited to a small audience, but wasn't trying to have a huge following of die-hard fans. He just wants to enjoy writing music and have fun doing it.
