Gretchen is a break through for female fronted heavy music. They have been described as a cross between Evanescence, Benjamin Gate and a heavier edged No Doubt. They excel with a style all their own balancing heavy tones (can you say "7 string guitar"?) with mature song writing and catchy hooks. There are no limits for the band as their sound falls right on the line between commercial and underground—Gretchen's music is neither obscure or predictably gimmicky. They find themselves at home with heavy weights like P.O.D. and Disciple while retaining the ability to gel with more contemporary styled groups. Without a doubt, the band has refined a sound that crosses barriers of style, tempo, age, and faith. Gretchen began to break regionally early 2000, with the release of their 11 song debut "Fairy Tale". Gretchen has appeared with groups such as STRYPER (Reunion Tour 2003), Disciple, Big Tent Revival, Rebecca St. James, Bryan Duncan, Bride, Paul Coleman Trio, Mayfair Laundry, Broomtree, New Song and others. Stationed in Tennessee, Gretchen has had regular radio rotation, charting on the PAJ, touring this year from New Jersey to Florida. "Star", one of the singles from Gretchen's current CD "Mouth Full of Nails" was recently chosen by Ford Motor Company in order to promote Ford Ranger. "Mouth Full of Nails" was produced by Travis Wyrick, who won a Dove Award "Hard Rock Album of the Year” for his work with PILLAR on their "Fireproof" CD, which was recently picked up by Geffen. Travis was also nominated two years in a row for best "Hard Rock Single" for his work with the band DISCIPLE (one of our label mates). Gretchen has been signed to Rugged Records for three years and has both national and international distribution as well as national radio airplay.
