CattleAxe consists of Tom Bettini, Greg Yates, and Alan Sammons.

Tom Bettini is ringmaster of CattleAXE's three-ring circus, plays bass guitar, sings and is the "host for the evening”. In 1987, Tom started playing bass for Jackyl. Jackyl was signed to Geffen Records in 1991, and their debut recording hit double platinum status. The band toured with Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. They shot four videos which were placed into heavy rotation on MTV. Jackyl's release, "Push Comes to Shove", which was released in 1994, went platinum, and once again they hit the road, this time touring with Aerosmith, Kiss, and Z.Z. Top. This tour earned them a slot on the main stage at "Woodstock '94" enabling them to share their music with 325,000 people in one fell swoop. Jackyl's performance at Woodstock ranked them among the best of the event by Rolling Stone magazine. Tom remained with Jackyl through more Gold and Platinum releases (along with two Guinness World Records) headlining their own tours until 2000. Tom formed Ultra-heavy N2O in 2000, but the group disbanded. This is when CattleAXE was born.

Greg Yates handles three guitar parts, a keyboard part, sings lead, dials up tones and stomps pedals. Greg grew up playing bluegrass with his father. His first studio experience came at age 15, providing guitar tracks for a Milligan College funded "Contemporary Christian" album. Greg toured in regional acts from the age of 18 on the Top 40 hotel lounge circuit. He was eventually picked up by David Allan Coe shortly after performing as an opening act for Coe in Kingsport, TN. During his tenure with Coe, Greg was fortunate enough to have shared the stage with several other legendary acts such as Ray Price, Brooks & Dunn, Willie Nelson, Levon Helm of "The Band", Ronnie Hawkins, Billy Joe, and Eddy Shaver, just to name a few. Greg has also performed the series of shows for Coe's "If That Ain't Country.....LIVE" album with Johnny Neel and Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule. Greg and David also did a series of live shows as a duet, considered by some long-time fans and concert-goers to be the best "Coe-Shows" ever.

Alan Sammons is the man behind the "world's loudest drum kit" in CattleAxe. Unlike Tom and Greg, Al has yet to do major label work or ride on buses, but is by no means any less of a seasoned "pro" than his partners in crime are, with over 30 years of playing experience, and a staggeringly long list of successful regional acts under his belt, such as Ezra Brooks, Redline, Tracer, C Rock City, Strider, and The Chill, consistently setting and breaking their own records for attendance and alcohol sales in every venue they played. Another of Al's bands, State Street, was the most radical departure for the Southeast's answer to John Bonham; a country gig that undertook one of the most grueling tasks in the music industry, the dreaded THEME PARK gig, at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge,TN! The pay was great, the exposure was phenomenal with over a million people in attendance every year, and the band shared their dressing room with the park's dancers, which didn't seem to bother Al in the least! See, Al's a Lady's man. Seldom referred to on stage because he's behind the others' backs, Al is the most personable, outgoing member of the group when offstage. He's probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet, Al's genuinely sincere "belly-laughs" can be heard from 50 feet offstage even when there is no mic in front of him; he's also probably the toughest you'll ever meet..... Seeing as he's still going strong despite being a survivor of both cancer and a heart attack. Prone to bouts with gout and senility (we call it Al's-Heimer's disease), he's also the voice of reason, the calm in the midst of calamity, chauffeur, truck driver, and all-purpose "Dad" for the band. No, really! They call him Papaw 'cause they love him!
