Blanche
is a 22 year old senior at Harding University, Searcy, Arkansas. She is
majoring in Social Work and plans to graduate in May. She grew up in rural
Jackson County, Arkansas, in a small community known as Pennington.
Music has been a part of Blanche's life for as long as she can remember.
She began singing at the age of two and was involved in music during her
grade school years at Grubbs and her high school years at Weiner. She likes
to sing songs that tug at the heart strings. Her early musical influences
were: Elvis, Tina Turner and Carole King. She now adds George Strait, Alan
Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, James Taylor, Martina McBride and Alison
Kraus to her list.
"Music Highway" is Blanche's first attempt at writing song lyrics and creating
melodies. She co-wrote all 12 songs on this album with her mom and uncle.
This all came about when she was selected to be in a contest in Nashville
and she needed an original song. At first she was going to sing, "You Win"
and then she decided on "May Angels Watch Over You". She placed in the contest
and has performed her song on several occasions and it has been played on
the local radio stations. Within a period of seven months, this group had
written 13 songs and decided to make a CD. It was a hurry up deal, Blanche
recorded 6 songs the first session and 7 songs the second session. One of
the songs is a Christmas song and will be included on a Christmas CD later.
She worked with a great group of studio musicians: "The Cuttin' Crew": Tim
Crouch, Robby Springfield, Doug Deforest, Andrew Frye and Mike Kennedy and
had a great Engineer: Jon
Raney. Blanche said it was amazing to hear words come to life in a song
and she was very pleased with the end results of her work and practice.
Blanche's goals are to touch others with her music, both as an artist and
a songwriter. She wants to write and sing songs that relate to everyone:
songs about love, hurt, family, dreams and just life!!! Music is a gift
and Blanche wants to share her God given talent with You and with the world.
